GRADING SCALE:
Students receive one of the final grades below. In some cases, a numerical grade may be given for a test,
an assignment, or project. This is eventually converted to a letter grade using the conversion table below.
Once a final grade is recorded, it cannot be changed. Students may not appeal individual grades during
the semester. Students may appeal the final grade in accordance with the NYU Grade Appeal Process:
http://www.sps.nyu.edu/academic-policies-and-procedures.html#Grade_Appeal_Process
The Office of the University Registrar maintains individual records of students enrolled in NYU and is the only department
authorized to record an official grade. Grades are reported on Albert.

Grade of IP and IF -
IP - May be granted by the Department only in extraordinary and extenuating circumstances.
It is not given automatically but only when it is deemed to have met the criteria and when a contract is signed
by the student, faculty, and divisional dean prior to the end of the course.
Once an Incomplete Contract is approved, a copy of this request must be filed with the Program Department.
Students must have completed at least 50% of the course to be considered for an IP.
If the terms of the IP are not met within the time frame stated on the contract,
the grade will convert to an N and cannot be changed or further appealed.
Students will have to retake the course to receive a weighted grade.
IF - Students must have completed at least 50% of the course to receive an Incomplete Fail.
An IF that is not removed by the established time in the Contract becomes an F and cannot be changed
or further appealed. Students will have to retake the course.
NOTE: A student who receives an IP/IF grade may not simply retake a test or exam already taken.
The student must do additional new work to remove the IP/IF as outlined in the contract.
There is a grade point deduction from the overall grade for late submission of work.
ACADEMIC INTEGRITY and PLAGIARISM:
- Academic Integrity & Plagiarism -
See full policy at
http://www.sps.nyu.edu/academic-policies-and-procedures.html#NYU_SCPS_Policy_on_Academic_Integrity_and_Plagiarism
- Plagiarism - Plagiarism is the use of words, phrases, charts, or other materials from the work of someone else
without correct and complete attribution of that work to its source. If a student needs to use material from a case,
a book, or an article for a written analysis or presentation, he/she should indicate that the material is another's
by quoting it and by citing the source (author, title, publication information, and page number or specific url,
plus the date of online access if from a Web page).
All of this information, as well as the use of quotation marks or other clear graphic indication,
is required to avoid plagiarism. If a student is unclear about whether something that he/she prepares for this course
might be considered as plagiarism, it is best to consult with the professor.
For examples of how to use quotations and to cite material from published works, Websites, guest lectures/public events,
and any other source, students should consult writing handbooks, such as The Writer’s Harbrace Handbook (Thomson Learning, 2002 or later edition).
